WASTED NATION - 7" PICTURE DISC (Intimidation Records)
I normaly let Steff do all the vinyl stuff as she prefers it to cd's but im glad she didn't get her paws on this one, A 4 track picture disc on very thick vinyl from a fairly new band from Scotland featuring members of Fake patriots and On file. This is one of those records that makes you want to go and see the band live.Fast and furious street punk with simple but very good lyrics "Gangland murder social cancer, knives are not the fucking answer" for example and from "Fair game" "Someone breaks into my home ,i wont just pick up the phone, thieving scum expect the worst ,you'll be leaving feet first". Limited edition of 400 available at gigs and from Intimidation records but hurry im sure this will sell fast.An exellent debut : 4 out of 5

WASTED NATION - 7" PICTURE DISC (Intimidation Records)
Yet another fuckin' superb release by Scotland's best record label! Wasted Nation features members from On File and Fake Patriots so you know you are going to get some great street-punk tunes, and yet again it's a limited edition of only 400 copies.

ACTIVES "Reactivated" LP"
Limited to 500 copies, this LP contains various demo and unreleased tracks from the ACTIVES, one of the many bands that made up the UK '82 scene. Taking the earlier melodic '77-style British punk and infusing it with the rough and tumble approach of the likes of DISCHARGE, the ACTIVES, along with others of the time, represented the second wave of British punk rock - an angrier and rawer approach toward the initial bomb blast. the sound quality on here is pretty fucking great across the board, and while by it's no means essential stuff, this is a pretty good documentation of yet another of those obscure bands from twenty-odd years ago. DRONGOS FROM EUROPE "Wasted" ep"
DRONGOS FROM EUROPE was formed in Brmingham, England in 1979. The band released two good singles in 1982, on the Inferno label. While this new material is not as strong as the older material, it still has punk credibility. Intimidation Records also offers good punk records by SWELLBELLYS, ASSERT, and ASSAILANTS (BR)

FAKE PATRIOTS - "Avoid Me" 7"
Like their CD and Punks Skins & Herbert's tracks, these Scots punks offer up fast and heavy no frills punk, a bit like The Exploited or Bakers Dozen without the Sun-reader lyrics. In fact there's some damn fine lyrics here esp "I'm Glad Your Dead" about Jill Dando and other celebrities who are famous for f*ck all. Lets hope the rich bitch and royal grovellor who replaced her is next! (6/10)

FAKE PATRIOTS - "Avoid Me" 7"
The FAKE PATRIOTS have slowly been building up the releases over recent times and this four track EP on the excellent Intimidation Records is their latest offering to my knowledge. The music is fairly early 80's in style but has a basic punk rock freshness to and the lyrics have a very "pissed off" and "fuck off" to the conditioning modern society tries to give us. As usual this release has the fine 7" sleeve that I've come to almost expect from the label. (GS)

OVERSPILL - "Who's War?" 7"
These Scots punks play raging, raw punk and feature a couple of ex members from the Barbed Wire (actually ex Exploited, Barbed Wire and the current bass player from Bakers Dozen). The two tracks on side one are similar to the recent Threats 7" on the same label, mixing good tunes with fast, powerful punk. Side two is less melodic, like The Swellbellys (minus the Wattie vocals), although they have some great tunes still to be recorded which bring to mind early 90's Scots punks Foolish Hit - ie the power of punk mixed with almost country melodies (7/10)

OVERSPILL - "Who's War?" 7"
OVERSPILL carry on the theme of Intimidation, with their 4 songs of classic UK82 styled punk. Catchy tunes, sing a long choruses - the whole McCoy. Reminding me of THE EJECTED and a host of other bands that were on Riot City all those years ago. The lyrics, while being serious, are done in a tongue in cheek and had me laughing many times. (MH)

THREATS - "Back in Hell" 7"
I think the THREATS are an old punk band but have come back on the great INTIMIDATION label with three new offerings. I could be wrong! but who cares! This is great sounding good old fashioned punk and comes with classic punk 7" packaging. Pulling the multi-coloured vinyl from the sleeve took me back instantly twenty years to the "boyish" punk rock excitement that me and my old punk rock mucker Mr Tony Suspect used to feel when we arrived back from Subways. It would be late on Saturday afternoon and our hands would be clutching the latest releases from No Future, Clay or Riot City, the punk labels at the time who put out our favourite bands! Subways, for the record was probably the best independent record shop in Southampton for a while before it went bust! (GS)
FRACTURE # 20 April / May 2002

The Threats - Back in Hell 7" Intimidation Records
It's my understanding that this band was around in the early 80's and had played with the Exploited on more than a few occasions. Not being that familiar, I don't know how this new recording fairs up to their older material. However I can say that this marbled colored piece of wax contains three tracks of fast paced distorted punk damage, better than a lot of stuff that's around these days. This is only limited to 500 copies so get in touch with this label online at www.intimidationrecords.co.uk

SWELLBELLYS-"Self Destruct" EP
I'm sure this will piss them off (and i don`t really want to do that, the singer has tattoos on his face and looks like a mad cunt) but this band sounds a lot like the EXPLOITED. From Scotland (home of the EXPLOITED funnily enough) these guys look like the boys who used to chase you home from school and make you wee your pants. Total Crimewatch UK.. This is good fast angry stuff, tons of bile and aggro. Songs of hatred and revenge, pick this up on Monday mornings before work, then go to work and tell your boss to stick his fucking job up his arse, then set fire to the place, then... you get the point. Cool record---don`t hit me. (AD)

Patrol - "Unknown Soldiers" EP- MRR June 2001
This band did not get the recognition it deserved in the early eighties, so Intimidation Records has used their first release to document PATROL's career. Any of these six songs would fit in nicely with a NO FUTURE or RIOT CITY "V/A" compilation of their day. The six songs are mostly snappy punk numbers coming in a round two minutes per tune. "Pushed" and "Unknown Soldiers" are the best songs on this EP, order one now. ( BR)

ASSERT/SWELLBELLYS-"United Front" EP
Fuck, it`s the `80s all over againat MRR: thrash records galore, peace punk reissues, and now this split from two bands that sound like they would be right at home on a Punk and Disorderly compilation. Assert is a little bit more melodic of the two bands, but that doesn`t mean they aren`t just as powerful as the more hardcorish Swellbellys. (JF)
MRR #220 September 2001

SWELLBELLYS/ASSERT-"United Front"
(Intimidation Rec) Probably the UK`s best HC punk bands on one red vinyl EP. Swellbellys` 2 tracks "Lies Lies Lies" and "Keep On Kicking" give the punter more raucous Exploited style punk rock...it`s simply impossible for a band to be any more powerful than this. Flip it over and Assert give us their brand of heavy HC which keeps threatening to break out into a tune. Strong Frankie Stubbs- style vocals deliver an uncompromising Socialist message with "Millennium Bug" and "Time To Seize". The cover is simple but looks great.(TH)
Savage Amusement Issue #14

ASSERT/SWELLBELLYS-"United Front" EP
No let up from Assert here, if you've got their CD's you will know what they are like. If not, well they are fast hardcore, with breakdowns and excellent song writers. The SWELLBELLYS are equally as strong, only more faster and chanty. My first time hearing them and they really impress the hell out of me. 82 styled hardcore punk, brilliant beats and footstomping tunes. Cool and on red vinyl to boot. (MH)
